A Few Insulators From Sweden
by C. Herbert Barker

Reprinted from "INSULATORS - Crown Jewels of the Wire", May 1975, page 3

Below is a picture of a few insulators I picked up in Sweden while on a short trip of two weeks in late '73. They are mostly white porcelain with very small pin holes, two fence knobs from Lappland and two small radio insulators (strains) from a World War Two German barracks. (Many German troops were in Sweden at that time. Most were transported overland through Finland and Sweden to occupied Norway.)

I found most of these along the telephone lines, but the one second from right came from the house my father was born in. The second from left is a beautiful butterscotch color and rare, I guess.

Most of my time was spent in northern Sweden and Lappland. The country is beautiful and clean. I spent two days in Stockholm. In front of the royal palace I found a pole that had no wires, but 7 or 8 nice looking glass insulators. I didn't have the time or guts to try to get them. I did get a colored picture, however.

I did not find any insulator collectors there. I tried to get a cousin of mine to look and save any for me, or ship them. I have a hard time getting a letter, let alone an insulator or two.
